Digital Literacy
Even though students are capable of looking for information on the Internet, do they realistically understand what plagiarism is, what sites have research based information that is supported based on the information and their URLs. This page can be used to understand what is legal and what isn't concerning websites and their uses. There will be a section with what the URL's mean, what to look for when using a website, and the use of pictures from online legally.
***Let's start with the use of pictures from online legally. Go to the following site to watch the videos and read articles concerning what is legal and what isn't. Then ask yourself the following questions.

1. When you are making a project or putting together a presentation and use pictures posted online, are checking to see if they have a copyright notice on them?
2. Did you make sure that they are available for public use (non-commercial)?
3. Below are some websites that are useful when searching for pictures that you would like to use. Make sure to always find a way to demonstrate where you took these images from (Cite your sources). I have made an effort to do this throughout the blog, and if I missed something, please do not hesitate to inform me.
Photopin.com - Photo Pin : Free Photos for Bloggers via Creative Commons
www.google.com - Google Custom Search - Image Appropriate Sites
compfight.com - Compfight / A Flickr Search Tool
www.behold.cc - Behold | Search High Quality Flickr Images
***Next we are going to look at what a URL means and what students should ask when looking at a website for information.
The best way to explain this section would be through an article written by Alan November. It discusses the things that students quickly believe along with how to look at URL's. Please read the following article and ask any questions needed.

***Finally there is an evaluation that you can use to determine if the website is legitimate or not. Follow the link to the questions that you can look for and answer.
